We have an amazing group of volunteer advocates! We definitely couldn’t respond to sexual assault calls without them. Our volunteers respond when we are notified through the crisis line that there is a person who has been sexually assaulted. They are called to the hospital, police department or Rape Crisis Center staying with the person during a sexual assault examination and giving them support and advocacy before, during, and after the examination with a specially-trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). They provide appropriate referrals, references and information to the person as well as give them unconditional emotional support.
Some advocates are further trained to accompany clients to court proceedings and VPO filings.
If you are interested in helping people in crisis after a sexual assault, we’d love to have you on our team! We have 16 hour trainings a few times a year where you learn about the dynamics of sexual assault and how to respond to people who are in that crisis situation. There is an additional six hours of training required before responding to a call as a primary advocate. We meet the first Tuesday of each month.
Be looking for upcoming training dates soon or call 405-701-5550 for more information!
We have volunteers that serve in many different positions at the Women’s Resource Center.
The women’s domestic violence shelter has a children’s program designed to bolster self-concepts and develop coping skills through individual and group contact.
The crisis line handles confidential crisis intervention, referrals, and information about domestic violence and sexual assault 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
There are miscellaneous volunteer needs throughout the year.
If interested in any of these positions, please contact the shelter at 405-701-5540.
At the Rape Crisis Center, we have volunteer advocates who sign up for call time and will respond quickly at any time of the day or night to a sexual assault call and stay with a person who has been sexually assaulted during their time of crisis. There are multiple trainings throughout the year, please call 405-701-5550 if interested.
