Volunteer Opportunities

Rape Response Advocate

Rape Response Advocates provide advocacy, referral information, and crisis support to victims of sexual assault and their loved ones. Rape Response Advocates sign up for shifts each month and are available to respond within 30 minutes of receiving call. Shifts are voluntary, flexible and usually run from 6:00 am-12:00 pm, 12:00 pm -6:00 pm, 6:00pm-12:00 am or 12:00 am- 6:00am

QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to remain calm in crisis situations. Ability to work cooperatively with community professionals such as health care personnel and law enforcement. Must be 18 years of age or older.

SUPERVISOR: Sexual Violence Response Specialist

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Commit to at least 6 months of service.
2. Complete Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training.
3. Sign up for shifts that may require response to sexual assault calls.
4. Meet victims of sexual assault at Rape Crisis Center or other medical facility.
5. Provide support to victim of sexual assault, family, and friends as needed.
6. Advise the victim of sexual assault of their options and be available to provide support throughout the hospital exam, police investigation, and court process.
7. Attend monthly rape response advocate meetings.
8. Complete appropriate paperwork and report to the Sexual Violence Response Specialist within 24 hours of responding to a sexual assault call.

Crisis Line Operator

QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with the community and resources preferred. Basic telephone and conversational skills. Ability to assess possible crisis situations and respond in a calm, appropriate manner. Must be 18 years of age or older.

ONSITE SUPERVISOR:
Sexual Violence Response Specialist

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Commit to at least 3 months of service.
2. Complete Crisis Line training.
3. Answer telephone calls on the Crisis Hotline.
4. Provide referrals to and information about various community resources to Crisis Line callers.
5. Complete appropriate paperwork on all incoming and outgoing calls.
6. Provide crisis intervention and support to Crisis Line callers.
7. Follow proper procedure to activate the Rape Response Advocate and SANE, in the event of a sexual assault call.
